Accident Details
The pilot of a general aviation aircraft reported that the farm strip used for landing was aligned on a heading of approximately 090/270 degrees and was 2,400 feet long. The approach was from the west. After clearing obstacles, the pilot noticed the aircraft was descending faster than normal. He then pulled the throttles to idle in preparation for landing.
As the aircraft neared the ground, the pilot felt a wind shear event. He responded by adding power, but the wind pushed the aircraft toward the north side of the runway, to the edge of the landing strip. The aircraft veered off the strip, and the wingtip collided with brush. The nose wheel subsequently broke during the excursion.
The pilot believed the aircraft's wheels were on the ground at the time the wind shear occurred, as evidenced by skid marks that went sideways off the landing strip surface.

The pilot obtained weather information from WK Kellogg Airport (BTL) in Battle Creek, Michigan, while en route at approximately 1455. At that time, prevailing winds were reported as 230 degrees at 10 knots. Later, at 1753, BTL reported prevailing winds from 220 degrees at 5 knots.
