What happened
On June 28, 2014, a Cessna 172M, registration N19992, was performing a landing in Holland, Michigan. The weather conditions were VMC with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds at 000 degrees at 5 knots.
During the landing phase, the aircraft experienced a hard touchdown and bounced while operating in variable wind conditions. This caused the airplane to depart the side of the runway and come to a stop in a grassy area. There were no injuries resulting from the accident.
The investigation
The investigation determined that the left main landing gear buckled during the runway excursion, and the empennage sustained damage.
