Accident Details
During an enroute climb to cruise, the airplane experienced a total loss of engine power. The pilot executed a forced landing to a field, where the airplane struck trees and sustained substantial damage.
Pilot Actions
The pilot, who held a private pilot certificate and a mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings, stated that he had performed an oil change on the airplane before the accident flight. He reported that he forgot to add engine oil because he was rushed and had personal activities to perform.
Examination Findings
Postaccident examination of the airplane confirmed engine oil starvation. No other mechanical anomalies were found that would have precluded normal airplane operation.
