Accident Details
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported choosing to land on a runway with an upslope and with a tailwind. During the landing roll, the airplane was left of the runway centerline. The pilot applied right rudder to correct its position, but the airplane veered right and, despite further control inputs, continued to the right, exiting the runway. The airplane then crossed a gravel road, impacted terrain, and came to rest inverted.
Pilot Report
The pilot noted no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather
A nearby weather station reported winds at 40 degrees and 7 knots around the time of the accident. The pilot stated he was landing to the south.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing, rudder, and horizontal stabilizer.
