Landing Roll Deviation Leads to Runway Excursion and Gear Collapse

Incident Overview

A pilot reported that the approach and touchdown were "acceptable," but during the landing roll the airplane pulled to the right and departed the runway. As the airplane traveled off the paved surface, the left main landing gear collapsed, causing the aircraft to skid to a stop in the adjacent terrain. The right wing and fuselage sustained substantial damage.

Postaccident Inspection

A Federal Aviation Administration Aviation Safety Inspector conducted a postaccident inspection. The inspection found no anomalies with the flight controls; all tires were reported to be in good condition.

The pilot stated that there were no mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
