On February 28, 2016, at approximately 1831 local time, a Cessna 172S airplane, Republic of Korea registration HL1153, was destroyed following a loss of control shortly after takeoff from Gimbo International Airport, Republic of Korea. The airplane was operated by the pilot. Both crew members received fatal injuries.

Investigation

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board of the Republic of Korea is investigating the accident. As the state of manufacture of the airplane, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board in their investigation.
