Accident Details

On June 23, 2016, at approximately 2259 UTC, a Discovery Aviation, Incorporated, Liberty XL-2, Honduran registration HR-HZT, was destroyed after impacting the roof of a house in a residential neighborhood near La Lima, Honduras. The accident occurred while the aircraft was performing a takeoff from a touch-and-go landing at the Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport (MHLM) in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The flight was a foreign, non-scheduled instructional flight that had originated at MHLM. Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident.

The aircraft was a Liberty XL-2, manufactured by Discovery Aviation, Incorporated. It was owned and operated by Horizontes Flight School. On board were an instructor pilot and a dual student, both of whom sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft was destroyed by the impact.
