Accident Overview
On July 20, 2016, at approximately 0422 Coordinated Universal Time, a float-equipped Cessna 208, registration B10-FW, collided with a bridge shortly after takeoff from Jinshan City Beach in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. The aircraft was operated by Avic Joy General Aviation under the pertinent civil regulations of China. The collision caused substantial damage to the aircraft. Of the ten people onboard, five sustained fatal injuries.
Aircraft and Operator
The accident aircraft was a Cessna 208, a single-engine utility aircraft fitted with floats for water operations. The registration B10-FW was assigned to the aircraft. The operator, Avic Joy General Aviation, was conducting the flight in accordance with Chinese civil aviation regulations.
Investigation
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is leading the investigation into the accident. Under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the CAAC, as the United States is the state of manufacture of the aircraft.
