Incident Overview
A pilot flying a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during the landing flare, her forward view was obstructed by the engine cowl, and the side-by-side seating configuration prevented her from seeing the right side of the runway. She recalled that the airplane touched down slightly left of the centerline and continued to drift left. In an attempt to avoid a runway excursion, she applied full right rudder and brakes. However, the airplane nosed over and came to rest partially off the left side of the runway.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the left wing, the vertical stabilizer, the horizontal stabilizer, and the rudder.
Pilot Statements
The pilot stated that no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies were present during the flight that would have prevented normal operation.
