Overview
A pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported an incident during the landing roll on a runway. The airplane, which landed in crosswind conditions, experienced a ground loop that led to substantial damage to its left wing.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot, during the landing roll with a crosswind, the airplane drifted to the left. The pilot's control inputs intended to correct the drift resulted in a "swerve," which subsequently led to a ground loop to the right on the runway. During the ground loop, the left wing impacted the runway, causing substantial damage.
Weather Information
An automated weather observing system at the airport near the time of the incident recorded wind at 340 degrees true at 8 knots. The pilot reported landing on runway 30.
Post-Accident
The pilot did not report any mechanical malfunction or failure with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
