Incident Overview
At approximately 1415 coordinated universal time on October 16, 2016, a Cessna 172P aircraft, bearing Greek registration 5B-CLB, was destroyed when it struck mountainous terrain. The accident occurred while the aircraft was conducting a cross-country training flight in the vicinity of Peloponnese, Greece. Both the Greek certificated instructor pilot and the student pilot on board sustained fatal injuries.
Aircraft and Flight
The aircraft was a Cessna 172P, a single-engine four-seat high-wing monoplane commonly used for flight training. The local instructional flight had originated from Megara Airport (LGMG) in Megara, Greece. The purpose of the flight was cross-country training.
