Incident Overview
On December 4, 2016, at approximately 1230 coordinated universal time, a midair collision occurred between two aircraft near Husbands Bosworth, a village in Leicestershire, United Kingdom. The aircraft involved were a PZL Bielsko SZD-51-1 glider, registered G-CSFT, and a Cessna 150L airplane, registered G-CSFC.
Aircraft Details
The glider was a single-seat sailplane of Polish manufacture, model SZD-51-1. The airplane was a two-seat light trainer, the Cessna 150L. Both aircraft held valid United Kingdom registrations.
Consequences
Following the collision, the glider descended and struck the ground. The pilot of the glider was fatally injured. The Cessna 150L sustained substantial damage but was able to remain airborne and land at a nearby airport without further incident.
