Accident Overview
On February 20, 2017, at 2159 hours Coordinated Universal Time (0859 hours Australian Eastern Daylight Time on February 21, 2017), a Raytheon model B200 (King Air) airplane, registered in Australia as VH-ZCR, crashed into a building and roadway shortly after departing from runway 17 at Melbourne/Essendon Airport (YMEN) in Victoria, Australia. The runway is 4,934 feet long and 148 feet wide, with an asphalt surface.
Impact and Fire
The aircraft struck a building and a roadway after takeoff, and a post-impact fire ensued. The airplane was destroyed in the accident.
