Incident
On April 14, 2017, at approximately 1600 eastern standard time, JetBlue Airlines flight 240, an Embraer E-190 (registration N373JB), encountered turbulence while on approach to Orlando International Airport (KMCO) in Orlando, Florida. The flight was operating under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 121 as a regularly scheduled international passenger service from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, Bahamas.
Flight Crew Actions
The captain reported that the passenger seat belt sign was illuminated during the approach. He observed a scattered and broken cumulous cloud layer between about 8,000 and 10,000 feet. Anticipating turbulence, the captain contacted the flight attendants, advising them that the descent would be bumpy and instructing them to sit down. Shortly thereafter, the airplane encountered moderate turbulence lasting approximately 4 to 7 seconds.
Injuries
Following the turbulence encounter, a flight attendant informed the flight crew that one of the aft flight attendants had fallen. After landing, the injured flight attendant was transported to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a broken fibula. The airplane sustained no damage.
