Accident Details
On June 13, 2017, at approximately 1810 local time, a Bell 214B helicopter registered in the Republic of Korea as HL9157, operated by UB Air, impacted remote mountainous terrain. The accident occurred about 3 miles northeast of Dongducheon, Republic of Korea. The helicopter was on approach to a drop zone while conducting an external load operation.
Damage and Injuries
The helicopter sustained substantial damage as a result of the impact. The two pilots aboard received serious injuries.
Investigation
The investigation into the accident is under the jurisdiction of the Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board (ARAIB) of the Republic of Korea. As the state of manufacture of the helicopter and its engine, the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated an accredited representative to assist the ARAIB in the investigation.
