Accident Sequence
The pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane was conducting a landing on runway 34. During the landing attempt, the airplane bounced. In response, the pilot applied power to initiate a go-around. Immediately after applying power, the airplane banked sharply to the left. The pilot attempted to counteract the bank using rudder and aileron inputs, but the airplane subsequently impacted the terrain.
Aircraft Damage
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage of the airplane. No other damage was reported.
Pilot Report
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Weather Conditions
A review of recorded data from the automated weather observation station located on the airport indicated that, approximately 5 minutes before the accident, the wind was calm. The airplane was landing on runway 34.
