What happened
On October 8, 2017, a solo student pilot was performing a landing in a Cessna 150, registration N7313G, at an airport in Medina, Ohio. During the landing sequence, the aircraft struck the runway with significant force, causing the plane to bounce. The pilot reported that the aircraft then porpoised before eventually coming to a stop on the runway.
There were no injuries resulting from the event. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the engine mounts.
The investigation
The pilot stated that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions present in the aircraft prior to the accident that would have prevented normal operation. Weather conditions at the time were visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 140 degrees at 3 knots.
