After a precautionary shutdown of the number 2 engine, the pilot diverted to an alternate airport. During a tailwind landing, the aircraft touched down fast, brakes faded, and it overran the runway, causing substantial fuselage damage. No mechanical anomalies were reported.

Incident Details

According to the pilot's report, after performing a precautionary shutdown of the number 2 engine, the pilot diverted to an alternate airport that was closer than the original destination. The landing was made under tailwind conditions. The pilot reported that the airplane touched down "a little fast." Following touchdown, the pilot applied the brakes continuously. The brakes faded as a result of this continuous use, and the airplane was unable to stop before the end of the runway. The airplane overran the runway, resulting in substantial damage to the fuselage.

The pilot further noted that there were no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies that would have precluded an uneventful single-engine landing. The precautionary engine shutdown was not due to any failure that would have affected landing performance.
