What happened
On January 19, 2019, a Champion 7ECA, registration N11852, was performing a landing at Chino, California, under visual meteorological conditions (VMC) with a visibility of 8 statute miles and winds of 000/03kt. The pilot was landing with a light quartering tailwind.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft entered a ground loop, which caused the landing gear to collapse. Following the collapse, the right wing struck the ground and sustained substantial damage. The pilot sustained 2 minor injuries and there were 0 fatalities.
The investigation
The pilot reported that no mechanical malfunctions or failures occurred prior to the impact that would have prevented normal operations.
