Accident Overview
A student pilot and flight instructor were conducting flight training maneuvers before proceeding to an airport to practice touch-and-go takeoff and landings. The student pilot entered a right base for runway 17 and landed the airplane without incident, but the airplane was not aligned with the runway centerline. The student pilot then raised the flaps and added power. As the airplane continued forward, it remained off the centerline and impacted snow along the edge of the runway. The impact caused the airplane to nosed over and come to rest inverted.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the right wing and vertical stabilizer of the airplane. No other damage was reported.
Pilot Reports
Both the flight instructor and the student pilot stated that there were no mechanical anomalies with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation. The flight instructor and student were able to provide accounts of the sequence of events.
