On April 28, 2019, an incident occurred in Johannesburg, South Africa, involving an Air Zimbabwe Boeing 767-2NOER equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW4056 engines. The aircraft, registered as Z-WPF, was involved in an event that prompted the South African Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to initiate an investigation.
What happened
Following the notification of the incident by the Government of South Africa, the NTSB appointed an Accredited Representative to support the South African CAA. This appointment was made under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13, as the United States is the state of manufacture and design for both the airplane and the engines.
