Accident Overview

On July 22, 2019, at approximately 0810 coordinated universal time, a Cessna 172 airplane, registration PK-WUG, impacted a river and sank under unknown circumstances. The accident occurred about 2.5 nautical miles northeast of Cangkring, Indonesia. The aircraft was being operated as a training flight under the civil regulations of the government of Indonesia.

Occupants and Damage

One pilot sustained serious injuries, and the second pilot received fatal injuries. The airplane sustained substantial damage.

Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) of Indonesia is investigating the accident. As the state of manufacturer of the airplane and engine, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a United States accredited representative to assist the NTSC in its investigation.
