2019 Lancair Legacy Accident Near Bixby, Missouri (N10LG)

Accident Overview and Flight History On October 6, 2019, at 0849 central daylight time, an experimental, amateur-built Lancair Legacy airplane, N10LG, was destroyed in an accident near Bixby, Missouri. The private pilot was fatally injured. The flight was a Part 91 personal operation. The pilot had traveled from Texas to Missouri three days earlier to attend the Lancair Owners and Builder Organization's annual meeting, and the accident occurred during the return flight. FAA records indicated no weather briefing or flight plan was filed before departure. Radar data showed the aircraft departing around 0825 on a south-southwesterly heading between 2,300 and 2,800 feet mean sea level. At 0846, the aircraft began descending, reaching a minimum altitude of 1,525 feet msl. It then entered a climbing left turn, slowing to about 42 knots before radar contact was lost at 0849:49 at 1,975 feet msl. Witnesses reported low cloud cover and mist, with one noting the engine sounded like it was revving high. The wreckage was found at 1615 in the Mark Twain National Forest, about 5 miles south of Bixby, after the Civil Air Patrol received an emergency locator transmitter signal.
