What happened

On March 27, 2020, an Airbus A300-622RF cargo aircraft, operating as European Air Transport Leipzig, experienced a failure of its number 2 engine during the approach to land at Brussels International Airport (EBBR). The flight crew reported experiencing vibrations from the right engine, accompanied by an Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (ECAM) alert. Following the event, the crew reduced power to the No. 2 engine in accordance with the procedures outlined in the airplane's quick reference handbook (QRH).

Upon post-flight inspection of the engine, investigators discovered debris within the tailpipe and damage to the low pressure turbine blade. Additionally, it was determined that both the high pressure and low pressure rotors could not be turned. There were no injuries resulting from this incident. The aircraft involved was registered as D-AZMK.
