What happened
On March 1, 2024, a private Texan Evo 915 IS Turbo, registration I-E257, was conducting a recreational flight originating from Nieborów. The pilot's intention was to perform several circuits at the EPPT aerodrome. During the second circuit, at approximately 14:35 local time, the aircraft performed a landing without the landing gear being extended. The pilot was able to exit the cabin uninjured, but the aircraft sustained significant damage. Post-landing inspections revealed damage to the landing gear, flaps, nose tire, and propeller blades.
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation focused on the sequence of the landing approach and the configuration of the aircraft prior to touchdown. The commission reviewed the flight details and the physical damage sustained by the aircraft to determine the circumstances of the landing.
Findings
- The primary cause of the incident was that the pilot failed to follow standard procedures for extending the landing gear during the second approach to landing.
- Additionally, the pilot did not verify the position or the down-and-locked status of the landing gear prior to the landing attempt.
