What happened
On the morning of August 25, 2025, a Tecnam P2008 JC, registration SP-SML, departed from Leszno Strzyżewice (EPLS) at 10:55 local time. The flight was part of a planned mission consisting of two segments, starting from Poznań Ławica (EPPO) and returning to the same. After completing a landing at EPLS, the aircraft departed toward the village of Krzycko Wielkie.
During the flight, the aircraft disappeared from secondary radar coverage, indicating that the transponder was either non-functional or switched off. Witnesses on the ground observed the aircraft performing erratic maneuvers at low altitude, characterized by rapid changes in direction, speed, and altitude. The aircraft subsequently entered a spiral descent that ended in a high-impact collision with the ground on a private property. The impact caused the aircraft to catch fire, and the wreckage was completely destroyed. Both the pilot and the passenger sustained fatal injuries.
The investigation
The PKBWL investigation examined the aircraft' and the pilot's credentials. The investigation established that the pilot held a valid recreational pilot license and possessed sufficient experience for the planned flight. The aircraft, which had a total flight time of 158 hours and 12 minutes, was found to be in a technically airworthy condition with all necessary documentation in order. Investigators also reviewed witness statements, video footage, and radio communications, and performed an inspection of the wreckage, noting that propeller blade damage indicated the engine was still operating at the moment of impact.
