What happened
On August 21, 2024, at 16:03 LMT, a flight crew consisting of an instructor and a student pilot commenced a closed-circuit navigation flight at EPSL. The aircraft, a Cessna 152 with registration SP-WLC, was operated by Navcom Systems Sp. z o.o. Sp.k.
Approximately 30 minutes into the flight, the instructor reported feeling unwell and experiencing a sudden deterioration in physical condition. Due to this medical emergency, the decision was made to terminate the flight and divert to EPLB. The Flight Information Service (FIS) Warsaw was notified of the situation, and a request was made for medical services to be present at the destination aerodrome.
The aircraft landed safely at 16:57 LMT, at which point medical assistance was provided to the instructor. The investigation established that there was no immediate threat to the pilot's life. Records indicated that the instructor had begun flight activities at 09:00 that day and had completed two prior flights totaling 3 hours and 50 minutes before the incident occurred.
The investigation
The PKBWL reviewed the documentation provided by the investigating entity and determined that the findings were sufficient to conclude the investigation. The inquiry focused on the instructor's physical condition and the sequence of events leading to the diversion.
Findings
- The probable cause of the incident may have been dehydration of the instructor.
