What happened
On July 28, 2024, at approximately 0815 mountain daylight time, a Beech C23, registration N2248L, was involved in an accident near Elko, Nevada. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal use. The flight was the first operation since the aircraft had undergone an annual inspection at Elko Regional Airport (EKO).
During the takeoff roll, approximately 200 feet down the runway, the engine experienced a momentary loss of power before quickly regaining it. The pilot elected to continue the takeoff. However, during the initial climb at approximately 100 feet above the runway, the engine suffered a total loss of power.
To avoid buildings located ahead of the aircraft, the pilot maneuvered toward an open field to the left. During this maneuver, the stall warning horn activated, prompting the pilot to pitch the nose down to avoid a stall. The aircraft subsequently impacted the ground with the right wing and propeller. The pilot sustained 1 minor injury and was not killed.
The investigation
Post-accident examination of the aircraft showed substantial damage to the fuselage and both wings. The aircraft was moved to a secure location for further study.
