What happened
On September 2, 2024, at approximately 12:15 CST, an Apex Cross-5X weight shift trike, registration N223CL, was involved in an accident near Columbus, Nebraska. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal use.
Witnesses observed the aircraft take off from a rural field located near the pilot's home. Another pilot, who was flying a different trike in the vicinity, was communicating with the accident pilot via radio to provide guidance. During the flight, the witness saw the N223CL become inverted before impacting the garage of a residence.
The accident resulted in 1 fatality.
