Accident Details
On September 20, 2024, at approximately 1648 central daylight time, an unregistered Rans S-14 Airaile light sport airplane sustained substantial damage during an accident near Teague, Texas. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The flight was operating under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight.
Flight Sequence
The pilot departed from Teague Municipal Airport (68F). Shortly after departure, the engine lost power. Witnesses observed the airplane turning back toward the airport, indicating the pilot's attempt to return for an emergency landing. However, the airplane impacted terrain short of the runway.
Pilot Information
According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the pilot held a student pilot certificate issued in 2004. At that time, the pilot reported 386 hours of total flight experience. The pilot did not possess a current airman medical certificate; however, pilots operating light sport aircraft are not required to hold one under FAA regulations.
