What happened

On November 5, 2024, at 16:39 mountain daylight time, a Honda HA-420, registration N57HP, was destroyed following an accident near Mesa, Arizona. The aircraft was operating under 14 CFR Part 91 for a personal flight from Falcon Field Airport (FFZ) to Provo Municipal Airport (PVU).

The flight crew and passengers were traveling to attend a college basketball game and intended to return to FFZ that evening. Prior to departure, the pilot had fueled the aircraft from a private tank, communicating to a ground assistant that there was sufficient fuel for the trip and that refueling would occur at the destination.

The aircraft overran the departure end of the runway near the centerline, struck the airport perimeter fence approximately 600 feet beyond the runway end, and crossed a roadway. Upon entering the roadway, the airplane struck a single vehicle. The impact caused the fuselage to fracture forward of the wing's leading edge and resulted in a post-impact fire.
