What happened
On December 4, 2024, at approximately 1420 Pacific standard time, a Cessna 150L, registration N5330Q, was involved in an accident near Glen Avon, Oregon. The aircraft was being operated by BEND AIRCRAFT MECHANICS LLC as a private flight under 14 CFR Part 91.
The pilot was performing the return leg of a cross-country flight toward Bend Municipal Airport (KBDN). While flying at an altitude of approximately 8,000 feet MSL, roughly 20 miles into the trip, the engine began running rough. The pilot attempted to resolve the issue by applying carburetor heat, but the condition persisted. The pilot then confirmed that the magnetos were on both positions, the mixture was set to full rich, and the carburetor heat was closed; however, the engine continued to run poorly.
Due to the inability to maintain altitude while flying over mountainous terrain, the pilot declared an emergency and initiated a forced landing onto a logging road. During the maneuver, the aircraft struck trees, resulting in substantial damage to both wings. The pilot and passenger were not injured.
