Accident Overview
On June 30, 2025, at approximately 2054 central daylight time, a Rans S-14 airplane, registration N981CS, sustained substantial damage in an accident near Guthrie, Oklahoma. The aircraft was operated as a personal flight under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The pilot, who did not hold a pilot certificate, was fatally injured.
Witness Accounts
According to a witness, the non-certificated pilot was instructed that he was not permitted to fly the airplane and was only allowed to taxi it. At about 2015, the pilot began practicing taxiing on the private airstrip. Approximately 39 minutes later, the witness no longer heard the airplane.
Discovery
Witnesses and others initiated a search for the aircraft. The airplane was subsequently found crashed in a field approximately half a mile west of the private airstrip, with the engine still idling.
Recovery
The airplane was recovered for further examination.
