A non-certificated pilot was killed when a private aircraft crashed in a field near a private airstrip in Oklahoma.

What happened

On June 30, 2025, at approximately 20:54 CDT, a RANS S-14, registration N981CS, was involved in an accident near Guthrie, Oklahoma. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal use.

According to witnesses, the non-certificately pilot had been instructed that they were only permitted to taxi the aircraft and were not authorized to fly it. At approximately 20:15, the pilot began practicing taxiing maneuvers on a private airstrip. After approximately 39 minutes, witnesses noted the sound of the engine could no longer be heard.

A search was initiated by witnesses and others, which led to the discovery of the aircraft in a field approximately 1/2 mile west of the private airstrip. The engine was found to be still idling at the time of discovery. The accident resulted in 1 fatality.
