What happened
On July 12, 2025, at approximately 0830 central daylight time, a Game Composites GB-1 Gamebird, registration N588AF, and a Vans RV-8, registration N931KZ, were involved in an accident near Gould Peterson Municipal Airport (K57) in Tarkio, Missouri. The accident occurred while the airport was hosting the Wing Nuts Flying Circus event, which included an air show and static displays. A temporary flight restriction was in effect, and a temporary control tower was operating at the airport.
The pilot of N588AF was leading a five-airplane formation. After being cleared to land on the base leg, the pilot was instructed by another member of the formation to execute a go-around. Although the pilot complied immediately, the maneuver did not prevent the aircraft's rudder from contacting the propeller of the N931KZ, which was already on the runway. The contact resulted in the lower aft corner of the rudder being cut off by the propeller.
The pilot of N931KZ reported that he was in the middle of a landing rollout when he experienced a sudden increase in noise and severe vibration as the other aircraft passed overhead.
Both aircraft sustained damage, with the GB-1 Gamebird receiving substantial damage and the RV-8 receiving minor damage. There were no injuries to either pilot.
