What happened

On July 23, 2025, at approximately 1300 EDT, a Rockwell International 112, registration N112EF, was involved in an accident near Burlington, Vermont. The flight was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 as a personal flight.

The pilot departed Patrick Leahy Burlington Airport (BTV) at approximately 0840 with 48 gallons of fuel. After flying to Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY) in Massachusetts, the pilot landed at approximately 1020. The pilot intended to refuel at MVY, but due to a long wait, departed back toward BTV at approximately 1104.

While flying the downwind leg of the airport traffic pattern for runway 10 at BTV, the engine experienced a sudden loss of power. The pilot attempted to reach the runway, but the aircraft landed approximately 15 feet short of the threshold and struck a berm. The impact caused substantial damage to the left wing spar. The pilot was not injured.
