What happened
On August 14, 2025, at approximately 1915 EDT, a Piper PA-1/2 aircraft, registration N4014M, was involved in an accident near Pembroke Pines, Florida. The flight was being conducted under 14 CFR Part 91 as an instructional flight.
As the pilot prepared to depart on runway 19, the wind was reported at 240 degrees at 5 knots. Upon applying full power for takeoff, the aircraft began its takeoff roll. As the tail lifted, the airplane experienced an immediate left yaw. The pilot attempted to correct the yaw using full right rudder, but the input was ineffective, causing the aircraft to depart the runway surface.
Following the departure from the runway, the pilot reduced engine power, but the aircraft could not be stopped. The plane struck a sloped concrete and dirt berm, became airborne, and subsequently struck an airport perimeter fence before coming to a final stop. The impact caused substantial damage to the airframe and wings, including a broken wing spar and a crushed, displaced engine compartment.
There were one serious injury and one minor injury resulting from the accident.
