What happened
On August 15, 2025, at approximately 19:10 EDT, a Grummand American Avn. Corp. G-164B was involved in an accident near Fowler, Indiana. The aircraft, registration N7015N, was operating as an aerial application flight under 14 CFR Part 137.
The pilot had departed from a private airstrip north of Sheldon, Illinois, earlier that day. After approximately five hours of flight time, which included several stops for fuel and aerial application product, the pilot was performing the final spray run of the day when the engine suddenly ceased operation. The pilot attempted to advance the throttle, but the engine failed to respond. The pilot subsequently performed an emergency landing in a bean field. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the wings and fuselage. The pilot was not injured.
The investigation
Post-accident examination of the engine, which had been overhauled six weeks prior to the accident and had accumulated approximately 155 hours, revealed that the sensing line for the fuel control unit had been severed.
