What happened
On January 13, 2026, at approximately 12:20 MST, a Cessna 750, registration N772XJ, was involved in an accident near Mountain Village, Colorado. The aircraft was operating as an on-demand air taxi under 14 CFR Part 135.
During the descent into Telluride Regional Airport (TEX), the crew encountered turbulence and strong northwesterly winds that caused airspeed fluctuations of 5 to 10 knots. The aircraft was aligned with runway 9, with winds shifting between the north and northeast. The pilots reported a smooth touchdown on the centerline, after which they deployed spoilers and applied forward pressure to the control column to maintain nosewheel contact with the runway.
Shortly after touchdown, a strong gust of wind from the left caused the airplane to veer to the right and the nose to lift momentarily. The pilots applied firm pressure to the control column to return the nosewheel to the runway. After deploying thrust reversers and applying left rudder, the aircraft veered sharply to the left. Despite the application of right rudder, maximum braking, and reverse thrust, the aircraft continued to the left and exited the side of the runway.
The impact caused the left main gear to sideload and the right main gear to collapse. There were no injuries to the pilots or the passenger, but the fuselage sustained substantial damage.
