What happened
On July 1, 2018, a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver operated by Air Saguenay was preparing for departure from Jules Lake, located approximately 44 nautical miles west-southwest of the Manic-5 aerodrome in Quebec. The flight was intended to be a visual flight rules operation to Margane Lake, carrying a pilot and three passengers.
During the takeoff roll, the pilot determined that the aircraft would not be airborne before reaching the end of the lake. In an attempt to avoid an overshoot, the pilot aborted the takeoff. However, the aircraft subsequently struck trees on the south shore of the lake. The impact caused significant damage to the aircraft and triggered the emergency locator transmitter (ELT).
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the incident. The investigation focused on the sequence of events leading to the collision and the condition of the aircraft following the impact. All four occupants were able to exit the aircraft safely following the collision, and no injuries were reported.
