What happened

On 12 October 2022, a de Havilland DHC-3 Otter equipped with floats, registered as C-FDDX, was performing a visual flight rules flight in Quebec. Operated by True North Airways Inc., the aircraft was traveling from Mistissini Water Aerodrome (CSE6) to Pluto Lake, Quebec, for the purpose of delivering cargo and collecting passengers.

During the landing sequence at approximately 0929 Eastern Daylight Time, the aircraft struck the surface of the water while the pilot was maneuvering for touchdown. The impact caused significant damage to the aircraft. The pilot sustained serious injuries during the collision. Following the accident, the aircraft's emergency locator transmitter was activated. Passengers waiting near the lake assisted in moving the pilot to a nearby cabin, after which a search and rescue helicopter evacuated him to a hospital.
