What happened
On 27 November 2023, a Mitsubishi MU-2B-60 was performing a flight from Thunder Bay International Airport, Ontario, to Wawa Aerodrome, Ontario. The aircraft was operated by Thunder Airlines Limited and was carrying two flight crew members and one medic.
As the aircraft attempted to land on the snow-covered Runway 03 at Wawa Aerodrome, it lost directional control and slid off the edge of the runway. The aircraft subsequently collided with a drainage ditch located parallel to the runway. While the impact resulted in significant damage to the aircraft, there were no injuries reported among the occupants.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the incident, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the runway excursion and the impact with the drainage ditch.
