Beech 200 lands on taxiway during repositioning flight in Manitoba

A single-engine Beech 200 aircraft mistakenly landed on a taxiway instead of the designated runway during a daytime repositioning flight near Winnipeg.

What happened

On 27 January 2024, a Beech 200 operated by Beaver Air Services was performing a daytime visual flight rules (VFR) repositioning flight. The flight originated from Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and was destined for Winnipeg/St. Andrews Airport, Manitoba. The aircraft was occupied solely by the pilot.

As the aircraft approached St. Andrews Airport, the pilot entered a right-hand traffic circuit. While positioned on the downwind leg, approximately 2 to 3 miles from the runway, the control tower issued instructions to turn onto the base leg and granted clearance to land on Runway 18. Despite these instructions, the aircraft touched down on Taxiway B, which runs parallel to the right of the intended runway.

The investigation

The TSB is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this occurrence to determine why the aircraft deviated from the assigned runway path.
