What happened
On 19 July 2025, a float-equipped De Havilland DHC-2 Mk. I operated by Air Tunilik Inc. departed from Poisson Blanc Lake, Quebec. The aircraft was performing a visual flight rules (VFR) day flight toward Evans Lake, carrying one pilot and four passengers.
During the initial climb following takeoff, the engine experienced a loss of power accompanied by a decrease in airspeed. In response to the power loss, the pilot attempted an emergency landing on the remaining portion of the lake. Because there was no wind, the water surface was glassy. During this landing attempt, the right wing stalled, causing the aircraft to strike the lake surface in a nose-down attitude to the right.
All five occupants successfully evacuated the wreckage and swam to the eastern shore of the lake. One passenger sustained minor injuries, while the aircraft suffered substantial damage. The aircraft's emergency locator transmitter was activated following the impact.
The investigation
The TSB is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the engine failure and the subsequent stall during the landing attempt.
