What happened
On 1 July 2018, an EV-97 Teameurostar UK, registration G-CEZF, was performing a private flight when it experienced an accident during landing at Strathaven Airfield, South Lanarkshire. The pilot conducted a straight-in approach to Runway 09, noting that the airspeed and the point of touchdown were within appropriate parameters.
As the aircraft progressed approximately 150 metres into the landing roll, it encountered a series of ridges located on the runway surface. These irregularities induced a bouncing motion that the pilot could not stabilize. Consequently, the nose landing gear collapsed, leading to a propeller strike. There were no injuries to the pilot during the event.
The investigation
The investigation was based on the aircraft accident report submitted by the pilot. The examination focused on the sequence of the landing roll and the impact of the runway surface conditions on the aircraft's stability. The pilot noted that the landing required extreme precision regarding speed and touchdown point to successfully mitigate the effects of the runway ridges.
