What happened
On August 10, 2021, an Airbus A320-232, registration OY-RUZ, was operating a scheduled flight under Instrument Flight Rules from Tirana (LATI) to Berlin (EDDB). While cruising at Flight Level 360, the flight crew encountered an engine flameout. Following the loss of power from one of the two IAE V2527-A5 engines, the crew initiated an emergency diversion. The aircraft proceeded to Budapest (LHBP) using single-engine power. The flight concluded with an uneventful landing at Budapest airport, and there were no injuries reported among the 186 passengers or the 6 crew members on board.
The investigation
The Danish Accident Investigation Board (AIB Denmark) was notified of the incident by the operator's Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO) on the day of the occurrence. Because the incident involved a diversion to a Hungarian airport, the Transportation Safety Bureau (TSB) of Hungary launched a safety investigation. The AIB Denmark participated in the process by accrediting a representative to support the TSB's investigation into the technical causes of the engine failure.
