What happened
A cargo flight operating from Bergen, with scheduled stops in Ostend and N'Djamena, experienced an excursion during its arrival at Kome. The four-engine aircraft was transporting various goods and was operated by a crew of six members.
During the landing sequence, the aircraft touched down approximately 800 metres beyond the runway threshold. Given that the total length of the runway at Kome is 1,800 metres, the remaining distance was insufficient to bring the plane to a halt. Consequently, the aircraft overran the paved surface and entered an adjacent field. The impact of the overrun caused the aircraft to lose its undercarriage.
Despite the severity of the excursion, all six crew members managed to exit the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. The aircraft itself sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to stop within the available runway length after a long touchdown.
- The loss of the undercarriage occurred during the transition from the runway to the field.
