What happened
During a cargo mission from Dire Dawa-Aba Tenna Dejazmach Yilma Airport to Djibouti City, an aircraft experienced a mechanical failure shortly after departure. While the flight was ascending to an altitude of 3,500 feet, the crew experienced the failure of one of the engines. In response to the loss of power, the pilot initiated an emergency procedure to return to the departure airfield.
During this return attempt, the aircraft went down in a desert area situated approximately 5 km north of Dire Dawa Airport, near the Shinile region. The impact of the crash was severe, causing the airframe to break into three separate pieces. The flight was transporting 6 tons of qat at the time of the accident. The incident resulted in one fatality and 8 injuries among the occupants.

- The primary factor leading to the emergency was the failure of one engine during the climb phase of flight.
