What happened
During the approach phase to Talil Air Force Base, the flight crew encountered a critical malfunction involving the engine control system. This failure necessitated the immediate shutdown of one of the aircraft's engines. Following this engine loss, the crew discovered that the nose landing gear failed to extend into the locked position.
In an attempt to resolve the gear issue, the crew performed a go-around maneuver. However, during the flight, the main landing gear also failed to retract, leaving the aircraft in a configuration with the nose gear down and the main gear extended. Due to these combined mechanical complications, the captain elected to proceed with an emergency landing attempt.
The aircraft subsequently struck an unpaved section of the airfield, resulting in a crash landing. While the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, there were no injuries reported among the occupants. All individuals on board successfully evacuated the wreckage following the impact.
Findings
- The engine control system malfunctioned, forcing the loss of one engine.
- The inability to properly configure the landing gear prevented a standard approach and necessitated the emergency landing.
