What happened
After completing a routine flight departing from Dikson, the aircraft type arrived at Norilsk-Alykel Airport. The landing was performed at a velocity of 200 km/h. During the subsequent braking phase following touchdown, the captain accidentally initiated the retraction of the landing gear. Although the crew managed to lock the gear in the downward position, the components remained extended.
As the aircraft transitioned onto the taxiway, the crew increased engine power. While traveling at a speed of 135 km/h, a decompression occurred within the right-hand main landing gear damper, leading to an unloading of the gear. This mechanical failure caused the right main landing gear to undergo a slow collapse. Consequently, the aircraft lost directional control and veered toward the right, eventually coming to a stop outside of the designated taxiway area.
There were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries among the 20 occupants on board. While all passengers and crew escaped the incident safely, the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the incident identified two primary contributing factors. First, the crew failed to follow proper procedures by mistakenly raising the landing gear during the deceleration process. Second, the aircraft was traveling at an excessive speed while taxiing when the structural failure occurred.
