What happened
On a mission to deliver equipment to flood victims in northern Mozambique, an aircraft departed from Quelimane. The flight was intended to reach Mocuba, carrying a crew of six and a cargo of relief supplies. During the initial climb phase, the aircraft experienced the failure of one of its engines.
In response to the loss of power, the crew attempted to perform an emergency landing. During this maneuver, the aircraft type (unspecified) crashed into a field. The impact caused the plane to come to a stop approximately 150 metres beyond the end of the runway.
Findings
While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were no casualties. All six occupants managed to exit the wreckage uninjured. The primary factor in the accident was the engine failure occurring shortly after takeoff.
